Meditation and Addiction recovery

When we enter into recovery, we enter into a time in our lives where we are healing from the consequences of an addiction to drugs or alcohol. Early recovery is where we learn to heal and learn to establish a new and healthier lifestyle that may support recovery through the rest of our lives. Recovery from addiction is really a lifelong and life changing process. Restoration is not the finish line, it’s a trip. In early recovery, you were taught several things to assist them on their journey. Some of the equipment presented are essential, and some are optional.

Lots of people do not recognize that relapse is an important risk in early recovery. Relapse is a slip in sobriety or clear time after an intentional amount of abstinence from drugs and/or alcohol. Relapse can be described as a one-time hit to recovery, or it can function as the beginning of the complete backward slide. In either case, it is dangerous. That is why it’s essential to work to prevent relapse as best we can, through application of numerous practices and techniques to help us manage any urges we might have to use or drink again.

In recovery, we’ve to understand to deal with feelings and stress which could cause us to desire to drink or use drugs again. We also need to figure out how to cope if they do appear with those tendencies. One of the simplest methods that is motivated to ease tension and not give into any urges that prompt relapse is meditation.

Yoga and addiction recovery go hand in hand. We’re taught that in addiction recovery, we have to learn to relieve stress and to calm our minds on a normal basis as to not become overwhelmed and feel the need to self-medicate or to relieve stress with other substances. Meditation allows us to clear our minds and to rest in an easy and healthy way, one which is found to be beneficial not only to spirits and psyche, but in addition to our feelings.

Addiction recovery and meditation are often paired together by experts because meditation permits us to escape and to calm once we are experiencing those relapse urges, and then manage to get back to reality more balanced and relieved without offering into those urges.

People who practice meditation in addiction recovery get the benefits to benefit life too and to grow beyond only addiction recovery. Meditation is just a simple and healthier practice that is often encouraged to balance our thoughts and our spirits on our travels in life.
