Keeping Sobriety

Drug addiction and alcoholism are disorders of the body and mind that can seriously influence the existence of the folks that have these addictions, together with the lives of the people around them. Maintaining sobriety is something that may be very demanding. Loads of people seem to think that in case you get an addiction problem all you need to do is move through treatment and become sober, and then you live a life of sobriety and are cured. Furthermore, a lot of people in sobriety get complacent after a little while. They’ve been living in sobriety for some time and feel they dont have to actively work to keep sobriety anymore. And when this occurs, individuals sometimes expose themselves to things they believe they could manage but may ultimately spark a relapse.

Maintaining sobriety means making changes in lifestyle and learning new tools for living, as well as always educating and reminding yourself about living in sobriety along with the practices which can be used to support sobriety. Some basic techniques for maintaining sobriety contain:

* Dwelling a healthier and active lifestyle that supports overall physical, emotional, and spiritual health

* Continuing to read literature regarding sobriety and recovery

* Being part of a recovery program including a 12-step program

* Avoiding negative people and folks that help dependency and exploitation

* Encompassing oneself with encouraging and good people

* Avoiding situations and assorted stimuli that will offer opportunity for relapse
